Skis II

Bastl Instruments

Dual voltage controlled decay envelope with dual linear VCA. Each channel has an exponential decay envelope normalized into a linear VCA. Envelopes can be configured as release envelopes via jumper.448

Capabilities 2

Envelope Generatorenvelope-generator

Voltage-Controlled Amplifiervca
Dual linear VCA. ENV OUT normalized to VCA CV IN. Linear response: 0V=closed, 2.5V=half, 5V=unity gain, >5V=gain. Can be used independently of the envelope by patching to VCA CV IN.448

Jacks 8 — 6 in / 2 out

NameSignalVoltageDescription
Inputs (6)
DECAY CV IN Acv≤5VSets decay time by CV. Full range of the decay knob can be achieved with a 5V signal. By default, CV adds to knob position; can be reconfigured so knob acts as attenuator when cable is inserted.448
DECAY CV IN Bcv≤5V448
TRIGGER AtriggerInitiates the decay envelope (attack ~2ms). Can work in trigger (decay) or gate (release) mode via jumper. Normalized to TRIGGER B input by default.448
TRIGGER BtriggerTrigger input for channel B envelope. Normalization from TRIGGER A can be canceled via solder jumper E.448
VCA CV IN AcvCV input for channel A VCA. ENV OUT A is normalized to this input; patching a cable here disconnects the envelope. 5V = unity gain. Linear response: 0V=closed, 2.5V=half amplitude, 5V=unity, >5V=gain.448

Outputs (2)
ENV OUT Acv-0.5V to 6VEnvelope output for channel A. Peaks at about 6V and rests at about -0.5V. Normalized to VCA CV IN. LED indicates envelope activity.448
ENV OUT Bcv-0.5V to 6V448

Parameters 7

NameTypeRangeBehavior
Decay Aknob8ms – 3000msSets the decay time of the channel A envelope. By default, CV input is added to knob position. Can be reconfigured via solder jumper so that knob becomes an attenuator for the DECAY CV IN signal.448
Decay Bknob8ms – 3000msSets the decay time of the channel B envelope. By default, CV input is added to knob position. Can be reconfigured via solder jumper so that knob becomes an attenuator for the DECAY CV IN signal.448
Jumper A (Gate Mode)jumperClosing this jumper puts the TRIGGER input into gate/release mode, where the envelope follows gate-low instead of firing on gate-high (trigger/decay mode when open).448
Jumper B (Tambourine)jumperClosing the TAMB jumper causes the VCA cell to resonate/self-oscillate at high pitch. When processing noise, it can sound like a tambourine. Circuit-bent by design; may self-oscillate at a frequency annoying to dogs and audio equipment.448
Jumper C (Knob Scheme A)jumperSelects knob control scheme. Default (MIX): CV adds to knob position. Alternative (ATTENUATOR): knob acts normally with no cable, becomes attenuator of DECAY CV IN when cable inserted.448
Jumper E (Trigger Normalization)jumperBy default, TRIGGER A is normalized to TRIGGER B. Cutting this trace cancels the normalization so each channel has its own independent trigger input.448
Jumper F (Envelope Shape)jumperDefault: exponential decay envelope shape. Cutting the trace changes the envelope to linear shape.448
