Befaco's take on the Serge/Buchla ramp generator: two voltage-controlled integrators (lag processors/slew limiters) with slope detectors, analogue logic functions (MIN/MAX/comparator), and flexible patching for envelopes, VCO/LFO, filter, portamento, and more.389
Capabilities 7
- Analog Logicanalog-logic
- MIN output is analog AND (minimum of channels A and B); MAX output is analog OR (maximum of channels A and B); B>A is a comparator gate output.389
- Envelope Generatorenvelope-generator
- Can generate AD, ASR, and ADSR-style envelopes using the integrator channels with Rise/Fall faders.389
- LFOlfo
- Dual syncable voltage-controlled LFO with Square, PWM, Saw and Triangle shapes using the low-speed range.389
- Lowpass Filterlowpass-filter
- The integrators can function as basic low-pass filters when IN is used with an audio signal at the high speed range setting.389
- Slew Limiter / Portamentoslew-limiter
- Voltage-controlled slew limiter with independent attack and decay and continuously variable waveshaping between Log, linear and exponential (portamento).389
- Slope Detectorslope-detector
- Dual slope detectors via RISING and FALLING outputs generate gates when the signal is rising or falling respectively.389
- Voltage-Controlled Oscillatorvco
- Dual VCO capability with Square, PWM, Saw, Log, Exp and Triangle waveforms, plus hard and soft sync, by setting CYCLE to cycle mode.389
Jacks 13 — 5 in / 8 out
| Name | Signal | Voltage | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inputs (5) | |||
| CYCLE A | gate | — | Gate input that inverts the CYCLE switch state. Does not trigger the ramp — only toggles cycle/one-shot mode.389 |
| FALL CV A | cv | — | CV input for remotely controlling the fall time of channel A.389 |
| IN A | mixed | — | Signal input for channel A. Accepts CV or audio. A gate signal is converted into an AD envelope with sustain.389 |
| RISE CV A | cv | — | CV input for remotely controlling the rise time of channel A. CV equivalent to the Rise fader.389 |
| TRIGG A | trigger | — | Trigger input that starts the internal function generator for channel A.389 |
| Outputs (8) | |||
| B>A | gate | ≤10V | Comparator output. Outputs 10V gate when channel B's output is greater than channel A's.389 |
| EOC A | trigger | ≤10V | End-of-cycle output for channel A. Delivers a short 10V pulse each time the internal function generator reaches 0V. Does not work with external signals.389 |
| FALLING A | gate | — | Slope detector output for channel A. Outputs gate only during fall times.389 |
| MAX | mixed | — | Analog OR / Peak Follower output. Compares both channels and outputs the maximum value at any time.389 |
| MIN | mixed | — | Analog AND output. Compares both channels and outputs the minimum value at any time.389 |
| OUT A | mixed | — | 389 |
| OUT B | mixed | — | 389 |
| RISING A | gate | ≤10V | Slope detector output for channel A. Outputs 10V gate whenever channel A's output is rising.389 |
Parameters 7
| Name | Type | Range | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| BALANCE | knob | — | Crossfader controlling the relative levels of channels A and B before the mix section. Affects A>B, MIN, and MAX outputs only; has no effect on OUT A or OUT B.389 |
| CYCLE A | switch | — | Selects between One Shot (stops when falling ramp reaches 0V) and Cycle (re-triggers when falling ramp reaches 0V, acting as a function generator). In cycle mode, TRIG and IN can be used as hard and soft sync inputs.389 |
| FALL A | fader | — | Fader controlling fall time for channel A. Same working principle as Rise fader.389 |
| RANGE A | switch | — | 3-position switch selecting working speed: High (small dot) for audio-rate applications, Low (big dot) for LFO and long envelopes, and an intermediate position.389 |
| RISE A | fader | — | Fader controlling rise time for channel A. Fader up = longer rise time. As rise time increases, frequency decreases in cycle mode or when used as a low-pass filter.389 |
| SHAPE A | knob | — | Changes the integrator's response curve from exponential to linear or logarithmic, allowing continuous waveshaping.389 |
| TRIG A | button | — | Push to manually trigger/initialise the internal function generator for channel A.389 |
