MMG
A vactrol-based, Voltage-Controlled Filter and Low Pass Gate using the QMMG core. Bridges Far East and West Coast synthesis styles, allowing for highly-resonant acidic squelch and organic, percussive animations simultaneously. Features smooth voltage-controlled sweep between Low Pass and High Pass responses, voltage-controlled Q factor with AGC, Strike input for LPG-style behavior, and Accent input for X0X-style punch.353
Capabilities 2
- Low Pass Gatelow-pass-gate
- Strike input triggers vactrol gain cell to open to 100% then decay naturally — LPG-style percussive pluck. 12dB/oct slope, steeper than typical LPG (Optomix).353
- Vcfvcf
- Vactrol-based, 12dB/octave slope, smooth voltage-controlled sweep between Low Pass and High Pass responses. Voltage-controlled Q with AGC at output. Uses QMMG core.353
Jacks 9 — 8 in / 1 out
| Name | Signal | Voltage | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inputs (8) | |||
| AC Input | audio | — | AC coupled audio input. Expects 10Vpp. Level set by AC Input Drive attenuator.353 |
| ACCENT Input | gate | — | 353 |
| DC Input | mixed | — | Direct coupled input. Expects 10Vpp. Allows processing of control signals as well as audio; enables asymmetrical clipping behavior.353 |
| Frequency CV Input 1 | cv | ≤8V | CV input for cut-off frequency with bi-polar attenuverter (5C). 8V range.353 |
| Frequency CV Input 2 | cv | ≤8V | Unity gain (no attenuation) CV input for cut-off frequency. 8V range. Suitable for pre-processed sequences or MATHS outputs.353 |
| Mode CV Input | cv | ≤8V | CV input for Mode. Normalled to Frequency control signal; patch a dummy cable or set attenuverter to 50% to disable normalization. 8V range.353 |
| Q CV Input | cv | ≤8V | CV input for Q (resonance) factor. 8V range. Has uni-polar attenuator (3D).353 |
| Strike Input | gate | 8V to 10V | Gate/trigger input that briefly opens the vactrol-based gain cell to 100%, then allows it to close on its own — LPG-style percussive pluck behavior. Expects 8–10V gate or clock.353 |
| Outputs (1) | |||
| Signal Output | audio | — | Single output carrying AC and DC input signals as processed by the MMG circuits. Includes Automatic Gain Control circuit to prevent amplitude doubling at high resonance settings.353 |
Parameters 7
| Name | Type | Range | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC Input Drive | knob | — | Sets input level for the AC Input. Also affects the strength of the Q-Factor circuit — lower drive allows stronger resonance; higher drive makes input signal stronger. Overload LED indicates when ideal levels are exceeded.353 |
| Frequency | knob | — | Uni-polar control setting the cut-off frequency of the filter. In LP mode, increasing frequency opens up/brightens the sound. In HP mode, increasing frequency thins the sound. At lowest settings, acts like a VCA attenuating the signal.353 |
| Frequency CV Attenuverter | knob | — | Bi-polar attenuverter for Frequency CV Input 1. Allows adding or subtracting CV from the Freq panel control setting.353 |
| Mode | knob | 0% – 100% | Uni-polar control that smoothly sweeps filter topology from Low Pass (0%) to High Pass (100%). Unlike the original QMMG, modes are not switched but swept continuously.353 |
| Mode CV Attenuverter | knob | — | Bi-polar attenuverter for Mode CV Input. At 50%, normalization from Frequency CV is effectively disabled. Setting to full CW enables quasi-band-pass behavior when nothing is patched to Mode CV Input.353 |
| Q CV Attenuator | knob | — | Uni-polar attenuator for Q CV Input.353 |
| Q Panel Control | knob | — | Uni-polar control for resonance level. First half generates clean resonances; past 12 o'clock, Q-Clip LED lights and resonance becomes increasingly aggressive and harmonically rich. Can drive the filter to self-oscillation at some settings.353 |
