Multimod

Make Noise

DSP-based modulation utility that takes a single CV input and produces 8 phase- and speed-spread copies; generates internal LFOs when no signal is patched. Part of Make Noise's New Universal Synthesizer System.631

Capabilities 3

CV Processorcv-processor
Takes one CV input and produces 8 phase- and speed-spread copies with weighted per-channel adjustment. DC coupled, ±10V range. Can also pass quantized pitch CV accurately.631
Clock Sourceclock-source
Outputs a clock from CLK Out at the write speed set by Time, or as a subdivision of an external Tempo clock.631
LFOlfo
When Signal In is unpatched, generates an internal LFO, copies it 8 times, and applies phase/speed modulation. Shape selects waveform: Ramp, Saw, Triangle, Sine, Square, Stepped Random, Smooth Random.631

Jacks 17 — 7 in / 10 out

NameSignalVoltageDescription
Inputs (7)
HOLD INgate≥2VMomentary gate input; Hold is engaged on the leading edge of a signal greater than 2VDC. If nothing is patched to Signal In, operates as Track and Hold on the internal LFO.631
Phase CV INcv-10V to 10VCombo pot input: when unpatched the knob sets Phase Offset manually; when patched the knob becomes an attenuator. Soft guard rails at 0V and +5V; above 5V continues incrementing phase; below 0V affects channels in reverse order.631
Reset INtrigger≥2VReturns all channels to the current position according to Time and Phase. Activated on leading edge of signal greater than 2VDC or button press.631
Signal INcv-10V to 10VPatch any CV signal here; MultiMod writes copies and distributes them to outputs 1–8 with phase and speed offsets. With nothing patched, an internal LFO is used instead.631
Spread CV INcv-10V to 10VCV input with attenuverter for Spread. Soft guard rails at ±5V; outside that range, Spread continues advancing to x24 or /24.631
TEMPO Inclock≥2VConforms Time, Phase, Spread and Channel Index to a tempo-locked grid. Activated on leading edge of a signal greater than 2VDC.631
Time CV INcv631
Outputs (10)
CLK OutclockOutputs a clock at the write speed set by Time (unclocked), or a subdivision of the external Tempo clock (when Tempo is patched). Activity window color indicates relationship to tempo.631
Channel Index OUTcv1V to 8VOutputs a voltage from 1–8V indicating which channel currently has the highest amplitude. Updates only on Tempo clock edges when Tempo is patched.631
OUT 1cv-10V to 10VPhase-spread, vari-speeded copy of the input signal. Channel 1 is affected most by Spread CW (fastest) or CCW (slowest); least affected by Phase changes.631
OUT 2cv-10V to 10V631
OUT 3cv-10V to 10V631
OUT 4cv-10V to 10V631
OUT 5cv-10V to 10V631
OUT 6cv-10V to 10V631
OUT 7cv-10V to 10V631
OUT 8cv-10V to 10V631

Parameters 7

NameTypeRangeBehavior
HoldbuttonStops creating new copies and begins looping the current ones. Also sets the current position as the Reset point while active. If nothing is patched to Signal In, acts as Track and Hold on the internal LFO. Toggle on/off via button or engage via gate input (leading edge > 2VDC).631
Phaseknob0degree – 180degreeSets the phase spacing of signal copies, weighted by channel. At full CCW all channels are in phase. At full CW channels 1 and 8 are 180° out of phase from each other. With TEMPO patched, phase spacings are locked to a tempo-based grid.631
ResetbuttonReturns all channels to the current position according to Time and Phase. When Hold is active, resets to the position that was current when Hold was pressed. When nothing is patched to Signal In, internal LFO returns to the beginning of its waveshape. Activates on button press or leading edge of signal > 2VDC.631
ShapebuttonSelects the read shape (playback direction/pattern) for the copied signals, and also determines the LFO waveform when nothing is patched to Signal In. Setting is retained across power cycles. Options: Ramp, Saw, Triangle, Sine, Square, Stepped Random, Smooth Random.631
SpreadknobSets divisors/multipliers of channel playback speeds, weighted by channel. At 12:00 (x1) all channels play at the same speed. CW multiplies channels 1-4 and divides channels 5-8; CCW does the opposite. Maximum spread is x8/div8 from the panel; x24/div24 with additional CV. Channels 4 and 5 are least affected; channels 1 and 8 are most affected.631
Spread CV AttenuverterknobWhen Spread CV IN is unpatched, acts as panel offset for Spread. When patched, operates as an attenuverter for the incoming CV. Soft guard rails at ±5V; outside that range Spread continues to x24 or /24.631
TimeknobSets global write/read speed. CCW = shorter time (more responsive); CW = longer copies and deeper modulation depth. Also acts as Global Event Delay. With nothing at Signal In, sets the rate of the internal LFO. With TEMPO patched, quantized to subdivisions /1 (CCW) to /32 (CW). When Hold is engaged, stretches or compresses looped signals.631
