Desmodus Versio

Noise Engineering

Stereo-in, stereo-out synthetic tail generator reverb and DSP platform. Less of a room simulator, more of a synthetic tail generator with features for sound design and performance. Runs on the Versio stereo DSP platform; firmware-swappable via USB.559

Capabilities 3

Resonatorresonator
Regen past noon reaches 100% feedback (infinite tail); can self-oscillate when FSU is triggered with no input.559
Reverbreverb
Primary function: synthetic tail generator reverb, not a room simulator. Three reverb style modes: LIM (clean limiting), DST (saturating), SHM (shimmer with octave pitch shift).559
Stereo Processorstereo-processor
True stereo in / stereo out; right input normalizes to left when unpatched.559

Jacks 5 — 3 in / 2 out

NameSignalVoltageDescription
Inputs (3)
FSUgate≥2VGate input for FSU function; maxes Regen and mutes input when gate is high (above +2V).559
In Laudio-8V to 8VLeft audio input. Normaled to right input when R is unpatched.559
In Raudio-8V to 8VRight audio input. Normaled from L input when unpatched.559
Outputs (2)
Out Laudio559
Out Raudio559

Parameters 10

NameTypeRangeBehavior
BlendknobDry/wet balance. Fully CCW: dry signal only. Fully CW: wet/processed signal only. Center: mix of both.559
BND/LRP/JMPswitchControls how delay lines respond to modulation: BND crossfades, LRP interpolates with pitch effects, JMP jumps quickly.559
DenseknobControls spacing of delay lines. CCW: delay-like character. CW: delays smeared into reverb.559
Zones
Delay
Reverb
  • Delay -100–0%Delay lines sparsely spaced — effect sounds like a distinct delay.559
  • Reverb 0–100%Delay lines densely smeared — effect becomes a lush reverb.559
FSUbuttonWhen pressed (or gate input is high above +2V), maxes Regen and mutes the audio input, creating a freeze/swell effect.559
IndexknobBipolar LFO amount to delay lines. Center: LFO disabled. CCW: random LFO modulation. CW: sine wave LFO modulation. Rate set by Speed parameter.559
Zones
Random
Sine
  • Random -100–0%LFO modulates delay lines with a random waveform.559
  • Sine 0–100%LFO modulates delay lines with a sine wave.559
LIM/DST/SHMswitchSelects reverb style: LIM (clean limiting), DST (saturating/distorting), or SHM (shimmer with one-octave pitch-shifted feedback).559
RegenknobControls feedback in the reverb tank. Fully CCW: minimized feedback. Up to 12 o'clock: shorter reverbs emulating smaller synthetic spaces. Past 12 o'clock: 100% feedback, infinite tail. Past 3 o'clock: infinite reverb is ducked by new input sounds, creating sidechain-type effects.559
Zones
Short Reverb
Infinite Tail
Sidechain Duck
  • Short Reverb -100–0%Feedback minimized to moderate; shorter reverbs emulating smaller synthetic spaces.559
  • Infinite Tail 0–50%100% feedback — infinite tail with no ducking.559
  • Sidechain Duck 50–100%Infinite reverb tail is ducked by new sounds arriving at the input, creating a sidechain-type effect.559
SizeknobControls the delay time of the reverb, affecting the perceived room size.559
SpeedknobControls rate of the internal LFO that modulates the delay lines. Modulation amount is set by the Index parameter.559
ToneknobBipolar filter in the reverb tank. CCW controls a lowpass filter, CW controls a highpass filter, center disables the filter.559
Zones
Lowpass
Highpass
  • Lowpass -100–0%Lowpass filter applied in the reverb tank, increasing in strength toward fully CCW.559
  • Highpass 0–100%Highpass filter applied in the reverb tank, increasing in strength toward fully CW.559
