Capabilities 4

Clock Sourceclock-source
Four CLK OUTs provide phase-aligned clock outputs for each playback head at 50% duty cycle, synchronized to CLK IN or TAP signals, with division/multiplication dependent on HEADS switch and mode.563
Looperlooper
Sound-on-Sound looper using Head 4 as looper playback head and Heads 1–3 for simultaneous delay repeats. Maximum loop time 15 seconds at max speed, two minutes at min speed.563
Spring Reverbspring-reverb
Integrated independent spring reverb tank with dedicated SPRING knob and SPRING CV input. Operates standalone or in combination with the delay signal. DRY and WET knobs feed into the spring reverb effect.563
Tape Delaytape-delay
Four-head stereo dTape delay with varispeed (8:1 range), per-head playback level and feedback assignment, and independent send/return feedback loop insert.563

Jacks 22 — 15 in / 7 out

RIGHT OUTaudioRight audio output. If only one output is connected, delay output sums to mono.563
SENDaudioSummed input signal plus delay repeats sent out to be processed by other devices. Part of the feedback loop insert.563

Parameters 25

NameTypeRangeBehavior
CRINKLEknob563
DRYknobSets the level of DRY (input) signal sent to the output from LEFT and RIGHT INPUTS to LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUTS. With mono input on LEFT, dry signal appears simultaneously at both outputs.563
FEEDBACK ON/OFF 1buttonEnables or disables feedback of tape head 1 signal back to the record head. GREEN when feedback is ON. Also used as INFINITE transport control when TRANSPORT is engaged.563
FEEDBACK ON/OFF 2buttonEnables or disables feedback of tape head 2 signal back to the record head. Also used as FORWARD/REVERSE transport control when TRANSPORT is engaged.563
FEEDBACK ON/OFF 3buttonEnables or disables feedback of tape head 3 signal back to the record head. Also used as RESTART transport control when TRANSPORT is engaged.563
FEEDBACK ON/OFF 4buttonEnables or disables feedback of tape head 4 signal back to the record head. Must be ON for loop playback in LOOP mode. Also used as PAUSE transport control when TRANSPORT is engaged.563
HEADSswitchSelects between three different head spacing modes: EVEN (even spacing), TRIPLET (triplet spacing), SHIFT (varispeed pitch-shifted playback).563
LOW CUTknobControls the low frequency shaping of the echo repeats. Minimum = extended low frequency bandwidth. Maximum = extremely high-passed, magnetic drum style repeats.563
MODESbuttonToggles between ECHO (GREEN LED), LOOP (AMBER LED), and SAMPLE (RED LED) operating modes.563
PANswitchSelects between three stereo panning modes: LRRL (heads 1&4 left, 2&3 right), CENTER (all centered with psychoacoustic stereo), LRLR (heads 1&3 left, 2&4 right). Custom panning available when set to CENTER.563
PLAYBACK LEVEL 1knobControls the individual playback level of delay repeats for tape head 1. Also used to set custom panning when held with FEEDBACK button.563
PLAYBACK LEVEL 2knobControls the individual playback level of delay repeats for tape head 2. Also used to set custom panning when held with FEEDBACK button.563
PLAYBACK LEVEL 3knobControls the individual playback level of delay repeats for tape head 3. Also used to set custom panning when held with FEEDBACK button.563
PLAYBACK LEVEL 4knobControls the individual playback level of delay repeats for tape head 4 (looper head in LOOP mode). Also used to set custom panning when held with FEEDBACK button.563
REC LVLknobControls the level of the signal fed into the Delay Line Record head. LED shows signal level: BLUE=zero gain (no signal to record head), GREEN=low signal (clean), AMBER=onset of saturation, RED=significant saturation (fat, harmonically rich tones).563
REPEATSknobControls the feedback level of the delay repeats for the tape heads that have their FEEDBACK toggle set to ON. Set to maximum for self-oscillation.563
S1 DIPjumperFEEDBACK CV MODE. ON: Allows CV trigger control of FEEDBACK ON/OFF buttons via transport CV jacks when Transport LED is OFF. OFF (default): Standard CV control of transport when transport CV jacks are plugged in.563
S2 DIPjumperDUAL SPLIT MODE. ON: LEFT IN/OUT is mono four head tape delay, RIGHT IN/OUT is mono spring reverb. OFF (default): Standard stereo IN/OUT with delay signal feeding into spring reverb.563
SPEED/PITCHknobControls tape speed and pitch. 12 o'clock noon is normal speed. Max is 2x speed (shorter delay, higher pitch). Min is 1/4 speed (longer delay, lower pitch). Total speed range is 8:1. When Paused, acts as audio scrub tool.563
Zones
Half speed
Normal speed
  • Half speed -45–-45%Around 9 o'clock (approximately -45%) is half (0.5x) speed — one octave lower pitch, doubled delay time.563
  • Normal speed 0–0%12 o'clock noon position is normal (1x) speed.563
SPRINGknobControls the output mix of the integrated spring reverb tank. DRY and WET knobs control the signals feeding into the spring reverb effect.563
TAPbutton50ms – 15000msFunction depends on MODE. ECHO: Tap a delay time with two presses. LOOP: Tap to splice in, again to splice out, third to clear loop. SAMPLE: Tap to start record, again to stop, third to clear. Hold TAP to enter PITCH QUANTIZE mode.563
TAPE AGEknobControls the bandwidth of the tape. Minimum = fresh, full bandwidth tape. CW = warmer repeats. Maximum = mildly peaking filter response creating atmospheric repeats at high feedback settings.563
TRANSPORTbuttonToggles the four buttons above it between FEEDBACK ON/OFF mode (GREEN) and TRANSPORT CONTROLS mode (RED). When in TRANSPORT mode, buttons control INFINITE, FORWARD/REVERSE, RESTART, PAUSE.563
WETknobSets the overall delay signal level sent to the output after the Playback Level knobs. DRY and WET knobs also control the signals feeding into the spring reverb effect.563
WOW & FLUTTERknobControls the amount of mechanically related tape speed fluctuations. Fully CCW = perfectly tuned tape machine. Fully CW = tape machine in need of service. More dramatic impact at lower tape speeds.563
