Capabilities

  • 2-Operator FM Synthesis fm-synthesis
In FLOOM (cycle/sound RUN mode): 6 internal 2-operator FM VCOs. Each output has a dedicated internal sine wave modulator. RUN voltage sets modulator-to-carrier ratio (-5V = 1:2, 0V = 1:1, +5V = 2:1). FM depth controlled by FM knob and FM INPUT jack (repurposed as CV for FM depth). [24]
  • Envelope Generator envelope-generator
6 AR (transient/shape), ASR (sustain/shape), or ARSR (sustain/shape + STRATA RUN mode) envelope generators with shared CURVE, RAMP, TIME, and INTONE controls. Durations are proportionally related via INTONE. [24]
  • LFO lfo
6 LFOs in cycle/shape with temporally related frequencies set by TIME and INTONE. Supports quadrature, polyrhythmic, and phasing patterns. TRIGGER inputs hard-sync each LFO. [24]
  • Noise Generator noise-generator
Available in FLOOM (cycle/sound RUN mode) with RUN between -5V and 0V, FM knob at max, and RAMP fully CCW or CW. MIX output produces broadband noise; CURVE, INTONE, and RAMP adjust noise character and color. [24]
  • Slew Limiter / Portamento slew-limiter
Available in STRATA (sustain/shape RUN mode). Six slew limiters with different time-constants driven by the same RUN voltage. Does not provide v/oct tracking. [24]
  • Voltage-Controlled Oscillator vco
6 audio-rate waveshaped VCOs in cycle/sound. TIME sets fundamental pitch (v/oct). INTONE sets harmonic ratios between voices. RAMP and CURVE control timbre/waveshape. Supports additive synthesis, chord generation, and through-zero FM. [24]

Jacks (14)

Inputs (12)

NameSignalVoltageDescription
CURVE CV cv -5V to 5V [24]
FM INPUT mixed FM source input. DC-coupled in shape range (allows static linear speed shifts). AC-coupled in sound range (for high-quality through-zero linear FM). Depth controlled by FM knob. In FLOOM mode, becomes a CV control for FM depth rather than a frequency modulator input. [24]
INTONE CV mixed [24]
RAMP CV cv -5V to 5V [24]
RUN cv Plugging a cable into this jack activates the RUN mode (SHIFT, STRATA, VOLLEY, SPILL, PLUME, or FLOOM) for the current range/mode switch combination. CV source controls mode-specific parameter. A dummy cable (0V equivalent) also activates the RUN mode. [24]
TIME CV (v/8) cv -2V to 5V Exponential (1V/octave) CV input added to TIME knob. A +1V increase doubles the frequency/speed of all slopes. Useful for pitch sequencing in sound range and rhythmic/duration control in shape range. [24]
TRIGGER 2N mixed [24]
TRIGGER 3N mixed [24]
TRIGGER 4N mixed [24]
TRIGGER 5N mixed [24]
TRIGGER 6N mixed Trigger/gate input for the 6N slope. Threshold ~1V. Normalled to all other unpatched TRIGGER inputs to its left. A single trigger to 6N (with nothing else patched) excites all 6 slope generators. [24]
TRIGGER IDENTITY gate Trigger/gate input for the IDENTITY slope generator. Threshold ~1V. Behavior depends on mode switch: trigger in transient mode, gate in sustain mode, hard-sync reset in cycle mode. Normalled from left; trigger to IDENTITY cascades to no other inputs (it is the leftmost). Other TRIGGER inputs are normalled into the one to their left. [24]

Outputs (2)

NameSignalVoltageDescription
IDENTITY output mixed 0V to 8V [24]
MIX mixed In shape range: outputs analog maximum of (each slope divided by its index) — a.k.a. 'OR' mix. In sound range: outputs an equal mix of all slopes, limited to ~15V peak-to-peak with tanh shaping. [24]

Parameters (7)

NameTypeRangeMin FWBehavior
CURVE knob Applies waveshaping to bend linear slopes into other shapes without affecting timing. At noon: perfectly linear. CW from noon: exponential curves (slow start, accelerating). Fully CW: sinusoidal. CCW from noon: logarithmic curves (fast start, decelerating). Fully CCW: rectangular (pulse wave; pulse-width set by RAMP). CV input sweeps from -5V to +5V equivalent to full CCW to full CW when knob is at noon. [24]
FM knob Controls the depth of modulation from the FM INPUT jack. At noon: no FM applied. CW: linear FM applied equally to all slopes. CCW: FM applied in INTONE style (proportional to index; IDENTITY unaffected, 6N most affected). Default value is noon (no FM). [24]
INTONE knob Sets the ratio of each 2N-6N slope speed to IDENTITY's speed, proportional to each slope's index. At noon, all speeds are identical. CCW: speeds decrease proportionally to index (at full CCW, 2N is 1/2, 3N is 1/3, etc. the speed of IDENTITY). CW: speeds increase proportionally to index (at full CW, harmonic overtone series). Related to just intonation. [24]
RAMP knob Controls the balance of rise-time to fall-time as proportions of the total slope duration without affecting the total duration. CCW: instant attack/long release (sawtooth). CW: long attack/instant release (ramp). Center: equal attack/release (triangle). CV input sweeps from -5V to +5V equivalent to full CCW to full CW when knob is at noon. [24]
TIME knob Determines the speed of the IDENTITY slope generator. In shape range: minutes to milliseconds (CCW to CW). In sound range: milliseconds to microseconds (Hz to kHz). The TIME CV input is exponential (1V/octave): a +1V increase doubles the frequency of all slopes. CV range is roughly -2V to +5V. [24]
mode switch switch Three positions: transient (triggered AR slopes), sustain (gated ASR slopes), cycle (looping slopes with phase reset via trigger inputs). [24]
range switch switch Two positions: shape (control-rate: minutes to milliseconds, 0-8V outputs, DC-coupled FM, analog-OR MIX) and sound (audio-rate: Hz to kHz, -5V to +5V outputs, AC-coupled FM, equal-mix MIX). [24]
